As a crafter with Asperger's, I am committed to spreading the message that Aspies can do amazing things, and to teaching people what autism spectrum disorders are (and are not!) To that end, I make a line of autism awareness jewelry featuring the iconic puzzle piece motif, and donate all of the profits to ASPEN, the Asperger Syndrome Education Network. Please help contribute to a worthy cause!
I draw my inspiration from all around me. My "Nature's Treasures" series of necklaces and desk charms features real feathers and shells and wings, all part of the beautiful world around us; my twisted wire earrings are inspired by the elegance of geometric forms. I love to experiment and explore; I almost never make the same piece twice, and I'm constantly trying new techniques and materials. Crafting is more than just a hobby or a business to me -- it's part of who I am.
I do most of my work at home (I dream of a dedicated crafting studio, but don't we all?) with the help of two feline assistants: the lovely Gypsy Rose keeps my crochet projects from floating up to the ceiling by lying on them, her big brother Pixel tests my chains and yarns to make sure they're durable enough for play, and they both remind me to take breaks during crafting binges by mewing incessantly until I pay attention to them.
I use the best materials I can find -- sterling silver and gold filled findings, wires, and chains; soft and sturdy yarns; quality stones and beads; secure clasps. I can't stand shoddy craftsmanship that falls apart after a few wearings, and would never put my name on anything that wasn't meant to last.
I know that I'm not just selling you a n accessory; I'm selling "Ooh, what a lovely bracelet!" and "Those earrings are perfect on you!" and, of course, "Where did you get that beautiful shawl?" A great deal of my business comes from word of mouth, because I do everything I can to keep my customers happy.
